Delaware River Basin Commission Compact

In a coordinated effort to conserve and protect at regional level the Delaware River water resources against major water management challenges within the Basin, President John F. Kennedy, together with the governors of Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York created and signed into law on November 2, 1961 the Delaware River Basin Compact – a partnership document providing a comprehensive plan on how best to improve water resources management practices over regional issues.

The Delaware River Basin Compact established the Delaware River Basin Commission – a federal interstate agency and political body responsible for developing and putting into practice water resources management measures and policies.
